Shrunken Head Baked Apples

Step 1
Preheat oven to 350°F.
Step 2
In large bowl, combine oats, sugar, pecans, flour, cinnamon, and salt. Using a pastry blender or two forks, cut in butter until mixture is thoroughly mixed and resembles a paste.
Step 3
Slice off the top ¼ of the apples. Use a spoon and/or apple corer to scoop out insides of apples, leaving a 2-inch-wide opening. Do not scoop out the bottom of the apple (leave ½-inch on bottom of apple). Using a sharp knife, carefully carve a face into one side of the apple. Divide the oat mixture evenly into the apples, packing in mixture firmly.
Step 4
Place apples in 13 x 9 in. baking dish, and pour apple juice around apples. Cover with foil.
Step 5
Bake 40 minutes. Uncover and bake 10-15 minutes longer or until apples are tender.
Step 6
In small bowl, stir together ice cream topping and red icing color to reach desired color of red. Place mixture in a piping bag and drizzle over apples.
