  1. Bake cupcakes. Prepare cake batter following recipe instructions. Bake and cool cupcakes in black cupcake liners.
  2. Create pattern template. Draw several 3-inch circles on your paper, then draw desired animal patterns within circles. Cover designs with parchment paper.
  3. Ice cupcakes. Using spatula, ice cupcakes smooth using white icing.
  4. Prepare parchment triangles. Make 3 cones out of parchment paper. If tape won’t stick, tear small slits on the folded edge and crimp to secure. Trim ½ inch from the end to create a 1/4-inch hole.
  5. Decorate cupcakes. Fill cones separately with black, gold and white sugars. Tap cones gently to sprinkle sugar onto the patterns, and use a small brush to sweep sugar into place. Approximately one teaspoon of sugar is needed for each cupcake.

Once sugar is in place on pattern, hold frosted cupcake upside down and roll gently in sugar, tilting from side to side. Repeat process for all cupcakes.
