Sparkling Ornament Cake

Forget piping decorations, this Sparkling Ornament Cake uses candy ornaments to add a cute holiday touch! Simply ice your cake, then use Dark Green Candy Melts candy and green sanding sugar to make candy ornaments. Arrange them around your cake and you're good to go!   1. Bake cake. Prepare cake batter following recipe instructions. Bake and cool three cake layers. Level one layer to 1 in. high. Fill and stack layers for 5 in. high cake.

    Ice cake smooth, using spatula to make swirl on top of cake.

  2. Make candy ornaments. Melt Dark Green candy following package instructions, adding EZ Thin if necessary.

    Place ornament template on cake board; cover with parchment paper.

    Prepare decorating bag with melted green candy. Cut ¼ in. tip off bag. Following template, make 18 to 20 candy ornament hooks (ornaments will be piped later). Chill until set, about 10 to 15 minutes. Reserve remaining melted candy.

    Using remaining melted candy, pipe ball of ornaments, four at a time. Immediately cover with dark green sugar. Continue until all ornaments are complete.

    Chill until set, about 20 minutes.

    Using silver cake paint and decorating brush, paint hooks and connectors silver. Let dry, about 5 minutes.

  3. Decorate cake. Arrange ornaments evenly around cake, cutting ornaments in half to fit along top and bottom of cake.
