Doll in Pink Dress Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 oz. Decorator Preferred White Fondant, 24 oz. Fondant Icing

  • Pink Icing Color

  • 5-6 cups of your favorite firm-textured cake recipe or mix, such as pound cake

  1. Cover bodice. Tint 1 oz. fondant pink. Use fondant roller with purple guide rings to roll out fondant 1/8 in. thick. Use fondant trimmer to cut strip, 4 in. long x 2 in. wide. Use brush and piping gel to attach fondant around bodice of doll pick. Insert pick in craft foam block until needed.
  2. Make cake. Prepare batter following recipe directions. Bake and cool cake according to pan directions. Place cake on foil-wrapped cake circle.
  3. Ice cake. Prepare buttercream icing following recipe directions. Tint portions of icing pink and violet. Insert doll pick in top of cake. Use spatula and pink icing to ice cake smooth. Run edge of spatula against icing to create diagonal lines around cake, leaving about the width of the spatula between lines.
  4. Decorate dress. For side ruffles, move doll arms up and out of the way. Use tip 127D, a cut 16 in. disposable decorating bag and violet icing to pipe a bottom ruffle, 4 in. deep, from center of front to center of back. Repeat with three more ruffles overlapping the first to complete one side. Repeat for other side. Use tip 14, a cut 12 in. disposable decorating bag and pink icing to pipe stars around waist, at bottom border and randomly between diagonal sections on cake. Use heavier pressure to pipe larger stars.
