Cherry Pie with Star Cut Outs

Who doesn't love cherry pie? It makes a great dessert in the summer for cookouts, or in the winter when you're looking for something sweet and satisfying to please a Thanksgiving or Christmas crowd. Ingredients

  • 1 package (14.1 oz.) refrigerated pie crusts

  • 2 cans (20 oz. ea.) pitted tart cherries

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • zest of 1 lemon and orange

  • Imitation Almond Extract, 2 oz.

  • Red-Red Icing Color, 1 oz.

  • 1 egg

  • Tools

  • Double Cut Out Pie Crust Cutters

  1. Preheat oven to 375º F.
  2. In large bowl, combine cherries, lemon and orange zest and almond extract.
  3. Gently unroll both pie crusts. Line pie pan with one crust; fill with cherry mixture. Use smooth edge of star cutters to cut stars out of top crust at least 1 inch away from edge. Place top crust over filling and crimp edges together. Beat egg with 2 tablespoons water until well combined. Brush over edges and top crust. Attach some of cut out stars to top of pie and brush with egg wash. Place on cookie sheet and bake 30-35 minutes or until crust is golden brown and filling is bubbly. Cool before serving.
