Step 1

Bake cupcakes. Prepare cake batter following recipe instructions. Bake and cool cupcakes in white cupcake liners.

Step 2

Tint icing. Tint 1 cup icing each brown, red-brown and dark orange using color combinations provided. Combine Brown and Red-Red icing colors to get brown color shown. Combine Red-Red and Brown icing colors to get red-brown color shown. Combine Orange and a touch of Red-Red icing colors to get orange color shown.

Using Pink icing color, tint ¼ cup icing pink. Using Black icing color, tint 1 cup icing black. Using Ivory icing color, tint ½ cup icing ivory. Reserve remaining icing white.

Step 3

Prepare bags. Prepare decorating bags with following tips and icing:

  • Decorating bag, coupler, orange icing
  • Decorating bag, coupler, black icing
  • Decorating bag, coupler, ivory icing
  • Decorating bag, coupler, white icing
  • Decorating bag, coupler, brown icing
  • Decorating bag, tip 3, pink icing
  • Decorating bag, tip 5, red-brown icing
  • Decorating bag, tip 3, striped with orange, red-brown, ivory and brown icing

Step 4

Decorate cupcakes.

FOX: Prepare white bag and orange bag with tip 10. Using white icing, pipe two ovals (not touching) on bottom half of cupcake. Smooth with spatula. Using orange icing, fill in rest of cupcake. Smooth with spatula. Prepare black bag with tip 4. Pipe oval nose. Switch orange bag to tip 352. Using pull-out leaf technique, pipe two ears. Position large candy eyes.

OWL: Prepare brown bag with tip 10. Pipe two narrow ovals, one on each side of cupcake, to form wings. Cover top of cupcake with brown icing, leaving area for chest feathers. Smooth brown icing with spatula.

Prepare white and ivory bags with tip 103. Hold bag with tip opening facing toward cupcake, wide end at 12:00, narrow end at 6:00. Starting at bottom of cupcake, pipe white feathers, overlapping rows. Repeat for a total of two white rows and two ivory rows.

Position large candy eyes. Switch brown bag to tip 2. Pipe around edge of eyes. Using red-brown bag with tip 5, use heavy pressure to pipe nose bridge and eyebrows. Prepare orange bag with tip 3. Using pull-out dot technique, pipe beak.

SKUNK: Prepare black bag with tip 10 and white bag with tip 4. Using black icing, pipe two ovals (not touching) on cupcake, leaving about ¼ in. between black ovals. Smooth with spatula. Starting at top of cupcake, use white icing to pipe pull-out dots along center, overlapping rows to bottom of cupcake.

Switch black bag to tip 352. Using pull-out leaf technique, pipe two ears. Prepare pink bag with tip 3. Pipe nose; smooth. Switch black bag to tip 2. Pipe mouth. Position large candy eyes with lashes.

BEAR: Prepare brown bag with tip 10. Pipe icing over entire cupcake. Smooth using spatula. Prepare ivory bag with tip 10. Pipe muzzle, smoothing with spatula. Prepare black bag with tip 4. Pipe oval nose. Switch to tip 3. Pipe mouth.

Press two Light Cocoa Candy Melts wafers into icing for ears. Position regular candy eyes.

HEDGEHOG: Prepare ivory bag with tip 10. Pipe heart shape for face, using spatula to smooth. Using striped bag with tip 3, starting at back of cupcake, pipe overlapping rows of pull-out dots. Continue, covering area around face. Prepare black bag with tip 2. Pipe small oval nose. Position mini candy eyes.
