A fun treat for kids and adults alike, these Winter Waddlers Penguin Treat Tops are sure to bring a smile to faces of all ages! Layers of icing and cake are placed inside a push-up treat container and fondant and icing decorations are added to the outside to make this heavenly chocolate dessert look just like a cute little penguin! A fun surprise for kids and a sure-fire win at any upcoming family dinner or potluck, these Winter Waddlers are really just too cute to eat (almost)!
Make chocolate cake in 12 in. x 18 in. jelly roll/cookie pan. Cake is one layer, 1 in. high. Use knife to level to 1/2 in. high.
Use smallest (1 3/4 in.) round cutter from 101 cutter set to cut four cake rounds for each treat.
Fill treat pops. Prepare chocolate buttercream icing according to recipe directions. Push one cake round in bottom of container. Use tip 12 and chocolate icing to pipe a swirl of icing from back edge following the curve of the container, then filling the center. Repeat to add layers of cake and icing to top of container, ending with cake.
Make fondant trims. Tint a 3/4 in. fondant ball golden yellow/lemon yellow combination (for yellow). Use 9 in. fondant roller to roll out yellow fondant 3/16 in. thick. For feet, use smallest heart Cut-Out fondant cutter to cut two hearts for each treat. Use knife to trim off points. Melt white and light cocoa Candy Melts candy according to package directions. Use yellow from primary candy color set to tint a portion of melted white candy yellow. Use melted yellow candy in cut parchment bag to attach feet to container. Let set, 3 to 5 minutes.
Use 9 in. fondant roller with pink guide rings to roll out white and remaining yellow fondant 1/16 in. thick. For tummy, use knife to cut a white oval, 7/8 in. wide x 1 1/4 in. long. Use melted white candy to attach tummy and candy eyeballs to container. Let set, 3 to 5 minutes. Use smallest heart Cut-Out to cut two yellow hearts for beak. Use knife to cut off curves. Use melted yellow candy to attach beak to container. Let set, 3 to 5 minutes.
For wings, tint a 1 in. fondant ball brown/red-red combination (for brown). Roll out 3/16 in. thick. Use medium leaf Cut-Out to cut two wings for each treat. Use melted light cocoa candy to attach to container. Let set, 3 to 5 minutes.
Make hat. Prepare buttercream icing following recipe directions. Tint red-red/Christmas red combination (for red). Use tip 32 to pipe a swirl hat to top each treat. For pompom, roll a white fondant ball, 1/2 in. dia. Use icing to attach to hat.
