Make cake. Prepare batter following recipe directions. Bake and cool cake. Place cake on a foil-wrapped cake board, cut to fit.
Ice cake. Prepare buttercream icing following recipe directions. Tint rose. Use spatula and icing to ice cake smooth.
Decorate cake. For eyes, use scissors to cut two pieces of black shoestring licorice, 2 in. long, and four pieces, 1/2 in. long. Place longer pieces of licorice on cake curving downward and smaller pieces for eyelashes.
For mouth, use scissors to cut two pieces of black licorice, 2 in. long, and two pieces, 1/2 in. Place longer pieces on cake for smile and smaller pieces for smile lines. Fill cavity with cinnamon drops.
