  1. NEEDED: See the Supply List for items you can purchase here. Also, click the Techniques tab for the Round Tip Swirl technique we used. You will also need:
    • Your favorite cake mix or recipe (3 cups batter needed)
    • Cornstarch
    • Plastic wrap
    • Fine-edge knife
  2. One day in advance, cut out fondant shapes. Download the PDF for the Splat template and print it. Determine the shapes you want to use to decorate the cupcakes.

Knead 1/8 teaspoon Tylose Powder into each 4 oz. package of colored fondant. Roll out yellow, red and blue fondant to 1/16 inch thickness (keep unused fondant covered with plastic wrap to prevent drying). Using "A" round cutter, cut out yellow, red and blue circles. Use a fine-edge knife and template to cut out the desired splats, stars, and masks in yellow, red and blue.

Use alphabet cut-outs to create "POW" and "ZAP" letters as desired in yellow, red, and blue.

  3. Also one day in advance, assemble fondant cupcake toppers. Use water brush tool to assemble toppers, alternating colors (yellow circle, blue splat, red letters; blue circle, red splat, yellow letters, etc.). Let completed toppers dry 8 to 12 hours on cornstarch-dusted cake board.
  4. Bake and cool cupcakes. Use your favorite cake mix or recipe to make 3 cups of batter. Bake and cool cupcakes.
  5. Decorate cupcakes. Prepare decorating bag with tip 2A and white icing. Pipe swirl on top of each cupcake. Top swirl with fondant topper.
