Everyone will pine over this adorable Spruced Up Christmas Tree Cake. Use a variety of green icings to pipe trees in various sizes and heights. Practice your different piping techniques, like dots and pull-out stars, for trees with plenty of texture. You could even customize this cake with a holiday message or cake topper. Serve it at your next holiday celebration for a tree-mendous dessert everyone will love!
Bake cake. Prepare cake batter following recipe instructions. Bake and cool three cake layers. Trip one layer to 1 in. high. Fill and stack layers for 5 in. high cake.
Ice cake smooth using white icing.
Tint icing. Tint ½ cup icing lime green, ¼ cup icing dark green, ¼ cup icing teal green and ¼ cup icing red using color combinations provided. Combine Moss Green and Lemon Yellow icing colors to get lime green color shown. Combine Kelly Green, Royal Blue and touch of Black icing colors to get dark green color shown. Combine Sky Blue, Lemon Yellow and touch of Black icing colors to get teal green color shown. Combine Red-Red and Christmas Red icing colors to get red color shown.
Using Juniper Green icing color, tint ½ cup icing juniper green.
Prepare decorating bags as follows:
Tip 2 and red icing
Tip 18 and lime green icing
Tip 3 and dark green icing
Tip 5 and teal green icing
Tip 16 and juniper green icing
Decorate cake. Using bag with tip 2 and red icing, pipe swag using dots of red icing. Lowest part of swag should measure about 1¼ in. from top of cake and be about 1½ in. wide.
Using remaining prepared decorating bags, pipe trees around sides of cake, varying in height.
