Step 1


Bake and cool mini skull cakes. For each mini cake, make one front and one back skull half in 3-D mini skull pan. Use knife to trim off brow. Use spatula and white decorator icing to attach skull halves.

Step 2

Cover mini cakes. Tint decorator icing copper/black combination (for gray). Reserve 1/4 cup full-strength icing. Heat remaining icing in microwave at 30% power for 20 to 30 seconds. Stir until icing is thin. Repeat if needed. Use pastry brush to cover cakes with thinned icing. Let dry, 5 to 10 minutes. Repeat with another coat. Let dry 30 minutes.

Step 3


Decorate cakes. Use fine tip decorating brush and black icing color to paint eye socket, nose and spaces between teeth. Combine brown, periwinkle blue and white Color Dust to make gray. Use brush to highlight cheekbones and around eye sockets.

For eyeballs, use white fondant to roll two balls, 3/8 in. dia. Use damp brush to attach to eye sockets. Use brush and black icing color to paint pupils. Use tip 8 and full-strength icing to pipe elongated bead eyebrows.
