This cake is literally exploding with color! Decorated with candy shards, rock candy pops, gumballs and more, this Sparks of Color Birthday Cake also features stripes of yellow and white icing.   1. Bake cake. Prepare cake mix following recipe instructions. Bake and cool 3 cake layers. Level, fill and stack layers for 6 in. high cake.
  2. Melt candy. Melt 3 oz. Orange, Yellow, Teal, Vibrant Green, Dark Green and Royal Blue candy, separately, according to package directions.

    Spoon melted candy onto 13 x 9 in. parchment paper-covered cake board. Using spatula, feather out candy into desired shapes. Chill until set, about 10 to 15 minutes.

  3. Tint yellow icing. Tint 2 cups icing bright yellow using color combination provided. Combine Lemon Yellow and Golden Yellow icing colors to get bright yellow color shown. Reserve remaining icing white.
  4. Ice cake. Prepare 16 in. decorating bag with tip 789 and white icing. Ice cake smooth. Using comb tool, comb cake.

    Prepare 12 in. decorating bag with tip 8 and yellow icing. Fill comb indents with yellow icing.

    Using icing smoother, smooth cake. Smooth icing on top of cake with spatula.

  5. Decorate cake. Insert candy shards into cake.

    Place sticks of rock candy pops into drinking straws; insert straws into cake (this helps provide stability to the rock candy pops).

    Top cake with remaining gumballs and jellybean candies.

  6. Pipe message. Using Royal Blue icing color, tint ? cup icing blue. Prepare 12 in. decorating bag with tip 3 and blue icing. Write message on cake.
