Socket to Them Halloween Eyeball Cupcakes

Step 1
Make cupcakes. Prepare batter following recipe directions. Bake and cool cupcakes.
Step 2
Ice cupcakes. Prepare buttercream icing following recipe directions. Tint orange. Use spatula and orange icing to ice tops of cupcakes smooth.
Step 3
Make eyeball. Tint a 1/2 in. ball of white fondant blue and a 3/8 in. ball black; set aside. Roll a ball of white fondant, 1 in. dia. Pinch ball at one end and use fingers to roll into a log, 3/16 in. dia. x 2 1/2 in. long, that extends from the ball. Use knife to cut a slit in log, 5/8 in. deep, to create two nerves. Cut each nerve in half to create two additional nerves.
For iris, use 9 in. fondant roller with pink guide rings to roll out blue fondant 1/16 in. thick. Use narrow end of tip 1A to cut circle. Use damp brush to attach to eyeball.
For pupil, use 9 in. fondant roller with pink guide rings to roll out black fondant 1/16 in. thick. Use narrow end of tip 12 to cut circle. Use damp brush to attach to iris.
Use red edible color marker to draw veins on eyeball.
Step 4
Assemble cupcakes. Tint piping gel red. Use red piping gel in a cut parchment bag to pipe blood drips in center of cupcake. Position eyeball and wrap nerves around edge of cupcake. Pipe red piping gel over nerves.
