Everyone needs a guardian angel. Treat little ones to a pleasingly protective presence by adding foil-wrapped halo and wings, royal icing flowers and piped-icing frock and furry coat to a Stand-Up Cuddly Bear Pan cake.
In advance, use royal icing and flower nail to make the following apple blossoms: 25 tip 101s in yellow with tip 3 pink dot centers; 25 tip 101 in white with tip 3 yellow dot centers; tip 102 in pink with tip 3 yellow dot centers. Let dry.
Trace 3 1/2 in. star cutter and wings patterns on cake board; cut and wrap with foil. Set aside. Bend lollipop stick into a round halo; tape ends together; cover with foil and attach gold star garland. Set aside.
Bake and cool cake. Trim right hand and arm off cake. Ice bottoms of feet and inside ears smooth with spatula. Using tip 3, outline dress neckline, pipe-in eyes, nose, mouth (smooth with finger dipped in cornstarch). Cover top of dress with tip 18 stars. Cover bear with tip 233 pull-out fur, beginning from bottom and working to top. Pipe tip 3 pull-out eyelashes. Pipe tip 127D skirt ruffle. Overpipe arms with tip 233 pull-out fur. Position flowers around skirt ruffle; add tip 352 leaves. Attach star and build up paws with tip 16; overpipe paws with tip 233 pull-out fur. Push wings into back of angel. Use royal icing to attach flowers to halo and pipe tip 352 leaves. Position halo on head.
This 5-petal springtime flower, most commonly seen in white or soft pink, is virtually the
same petal shape as the wild rose, but uses a smaller tip creating a petite flower. The
dot stamen are typically positioned like the holes in a 5-hole button. Dry them on flower
formers for a more natural look.
