Start by covering the base of the ice cream cone. Rotate the tip as you pipe around the cone.
Using a decorating bag fitted with Tip 18 (or any medium star tip), hold the bag against the side of the cone, with the tip just slightly above the surface.
Squeeze the bag to form a star. Continue squeezing, pulling the tip down and away, decreasing pressure as you reach the desired length of the branch.
Stagger the next row of pull-out stars so that the new row of pull-out stars is piped between the previous row of pull-out stars. This will create a fuller, filled-in look.
Repeat to cover the tree. Pipe shorter pull-out stars towards the tip of the cone
Stop piping before reaching the tip off the cone. Place tree on the iced board to position.
Finish piping the top-most rows.
Create different sized trees by cutting ice cream sugar cones to size. To trim, use a wet brush to dampen the wide end of the cones with water. Only dampen the part to be trimmed. Use a knife to cut along dampened line. Let cone dry completely before decorating.
For ornaments, pipe dots using different colors of icing, nonpareils or Sugar Pearls Sprinkles.
Finish the tree by adding a Gold Star Sprinkle on top.
