Spark excitement at your patriotic party with these lively cupcakes. They?re red, white and blue all the way through, thanks to the Wilton Two-Tone Cupcake Pan Set, which separates batter colors for a sensational effect.
Make stars one day in advance. For each treat, knead a pinch of Gum-Tex into 1/2 oz. fondant. Tint 2/3 fondant blue and 1/3 fondant red.
Use fondant roller with purple guide rings to roll out blue fondant 1/8 in. thick. Use medium Cut-Out to cut one blue star per treat.
Use fondant roller to press red fondant into kids party mold to make one small red star per treat. Let stars dry on cornstarch-dusted cake board overnight.
Make cupcakes. Prepare white batter following recipe directions. Reserve 2/3 of batter white. Divide remaining batter in half. Tint portions of batter blue and red.
Place two-tone insert in baking cup-lined muffin pan. Use cut disposable decorating bags to fill center ring of insert 1/3 full with blue batter and then fill 1/3 full with red batter. Use a cut disposable decorating bag to fill outer ring of insert 2/3 full with white batter. Remove insert and repeat until all cavities are filled. Remove insert. Bake and cool cupcakes.
Decorate cupcakes. Prepare buttercream icing following recipe directions. Tint blue. Use spatula to ice top of cupcakes smooth. Position patriotic mix sprinkles. Insert stars.

The hardest part was using the gum-tex. (But only because I've never used it before). When my guests took a bite the different colored cake was a surprise and everyone wanted to know my secret! Loved how the two-tone cupcake pan set made it so easy! Would do this again for a baby shower.
