Yar!! This Party Pirate Birthday Cake will have ye bones rattling! An edible skull cake is decorated with edible candy bones, making this a fun party centerpiece for all birthday scallywags! In advance: Make candy bones. Pour
melted white candy in cookie pan cavities.
Tap to settle; chill until firm. Also: Make
fondant bandana ties. Tint 6 oz. fondant red.
Add 1/8 teaspoon Gum-Tex to 1/2 oz. of red
fondant; reserve remainder. Roll out 1/16 in.
thick. Cut two leaves with medium Cut-Out.
Let dry on cornstarch-dusted board. Attach
together with melted candy; let set.
Bake and cool skull cake. Pipe in tip 5 eyes,
nose and mouth. Pat smooth with finger
dipped in cornstarch. Cover cake with tip
14 stars. Pipe in tip 3 teeth. Pat smooth
with finger dipped in cornstarch.
Make fondant trims. Tint 1 oz. fondant each
black and yellow. Roll out black 1/8 in. thick.
Cut eye patch with largest round Cut-Out;
cut 1/2 in. from top for straight edge.
Attach over eye with icing. Reroll black
fondant 1/16 in. thick; cut a strip for eye
patch string 1/8 in. x 8 in. Attach under eye
patch with icing and wrap around skull.
Roll out reserved red fondant 1/8 in. thick.
Using 8 in. cake circle as guide, cut cap
area. Attach to top of skull with icing; trim
excess from back. Roll out yellow fondant
1/16 in. thick. Cut polka dots with medium
round Cut-Out. Attach with damp brush.
For knot, roll a 1/2 in. ball of red fondant.
Attach bandana ties to knot with melted
candy; let set. Attach to lollipop stick with
melted candy; let set. Insert in cake.
Cut out scroll pattern from paper. Using
marker, write name. Curl paper by loosely
rolling up and back. Position message and
candy bones around cake.
