All these cute monkeys are just hanging around to wish someone a very happy birthday! A fun jungle-themed cake for a large party, this Monkey Around Cake for Boy is embellished with candy monkeys and decorated with leafy greens. Fun for birthday parties and even baby showers, this cute jungle cake can also be personalized with a name or special greeting.
1 day in advance: Make monkey candies. Using candy colors, tint small amounts of
melted white candy black, light yellow, dark yellow, green and light blue. Mix 1 oz. white
with 1/2 oz. peanut butter for light brown. Mold two swinging monkeys (one on stick)
and one monkey behind plants using piping method. Chill until firm.
tree. Cover pattern with waxed paper. Pipe in tree trunk with light cocoa candy; chill until
firm. Turn over and pipe a line of candy down center; position lollipop stick, leaving 4 in.
extended at bottom. Overpipe entire tree trunk with melted candy; chill until firm.
Bake and cool 2-layer cakes (for 8 in. cake, trim layers to 2 1/2 in. for a 5 in. high cake).
Prepare for stacked construction. Position on base board and ice cakes
smooth. Insert tree and monkey on stick. Cover front of tree with tip 18 lines on trunk
and large branches; cover small branches with tip 16 lines.
On bottom cake, attach monkey candies without sticks with icing. Pipe tip 18 tree
trunk with tip 16 branches. Pipe tip 352 leaves on trees and for plants on top and
bottom cakes. Pipe tip 3 vines. Pipe tip 233 pull-out grass on bottom borders and
cake top. Print tip 5 name. Attach ribbon around base with tape.
