Why should zombies have all the fun?! This Halloween serve a skull cake everyone will want to sink his or her teeth into. Bake in the Wilton Skull Tube Cake Pan and then decorate with tinted buttercream icing.
Make cake. Prepare batter following recipe directions. Bake and cool cake. Place cake on a foil-wrapped cake board, cut to fit.
Ice cakes. Prepare buttercream icing following recipe directions. Tint copper (for skin tone shown), light red and a small portion black. Use 9 in. tapered spatula and copper icing to ice cavities smooth. Use 13 in. angled spatula and copper icing to ice cake.
Make brains cake. Use tip 2A and light red icing to pipe random zigzags on top portion of cake.
Make eyes. For eyeballs, use 4 1/4 oz. of fondant, divide into two separate pieces and roll into balls. For pupils, tint 1/2 in. ball of fondant black. Use fondant roller with pink guide rings to roll out black fondant 1/16 in. thick. Use wide end of tip 2A to cut two circles. Place eyeballs in eye cavities. Use damp brush to attach pupils to eyeballs.
Make facial features. Use tip 7 and black icing to pipe outline eyebrows. Use copper icing to attach mini marshmallows in mouth cavity for teeth. Use red piping gel to pipe blood on brains and face.
