Celebrate a winter birthday or wedding with this Mega Mint Cake. Decorated with various swirl drop flowers, this simple cake is great for beginners and features a lovely assortment of green and blue icing colors. Bake cake. Prepare cake batter following recipe instructions. Bake and cool cake.
Tint icing. Tint 4 cups icing light mint using color combinations provided. Combine Kelly Green and touch of Lemon Yellow icing colors to get light and medium mint green color shown. Combine Kelly Green and Sky Blue icing colors to get medium green color shown. Combine Teal and Sky Blue icing colors to get turquoise color shown. Combine Kelly Green and Sky Blue icing colors to get aqua color shown. Additionally, tint ¼ cup icing each medium mint, medium green, turquoise and aqua.
Decorate cake. Using spatula, roughly ice cake using light mint icing.
Prepare four decorating bags separately with tips 1G, 1B, 2F and 225. Fill separately with medium mint, medium green, turquoise and aqua icing.
Pipe swirl drop flowers around top edge of cake, alternating tips.
Pipe flowers with a simple straight up motion. Used sparingly, star drop flowers make delicate accents (especially those made with smaller tips) and are also great fill-in decorations. Using different tips will create different flower effects. Tip 1B is perfect for making hydrangeas, whereas tip 225 creates delicate blossoms.
