This cake will put you on the map! The U.S.A. is front and center, decorated with woodgrain-textured panels in new Americana colors. Use Decorator Preferred Fondant and our 9 in. x 13 in. Sheet Pan to create this memorable cake.
Make cake. Prepare batter following recipe directions. Bake and cool cake. Use spatula and white decorator icing to ice cake smooth. Run edge of spatula across sides of cake to create texture lines. Use toothpick to mark map pattern on cake top.
Make map. Tint 3 oz. portions of fondant red, brown, blue, green and black. Tint 4 oz. of fondant ivory. Use 9 in. fondant roller with purple guide rings to roll out fondant colors, separately, about 1/8 in. thick. Use small end of veining tool from set to score woodgrain lines on fondant. Use pattern and fondant trimmer to cut two strips of black fondant and three strips each of other fondant colors in various widths following pattern. Use brush and piping gel to attach strips side by side on cake top.
For map border, roll a log of ivory fondant, 42 in. long x 1/8 in. dia. Use brush and piping gel to attach around map. Press log evenly against indented areas of map.
