Step 1

Make cake. Prepare batter following recipe directions. Bake and cool cake. Cake is three-layers. Trim one layer to 1 in. high for a 5 in. high tier. Place on foil-wrapped cake circle.

Step 2

Decorate cake. Prepare buttercream icing following recipe directions. Tint portions ivory and black. Use spatula and ivory icing to ice cake smooth.

Use ruler and toothpick to divide cake. Mark center of cake around sides. Mark 1/4 in. down from top border. Use black icing and tip 233 to pipe pull-out grass around bottom border. Move tip up 3/8 in. and pipe a second row. At top of cake, pipe a row of pull-out grass around cake at 1/4 in. mark. Repeat to pipe a second row above, level with top of cake. Pipe pull-out grass at center of cake, first row below marks, the next row above marks.
