Make cake. Prepare batter following recipe directions. Bake and cool one 8 in. cake layer. Position on cake pedestal.
Prepare buttercream icing following recipe directions. Tint icing following color formulas above. Use tip 7, a cut disposable decorating bag and blue icing to pipe dot button in center of cake.
Make fondant tassel and cord. For tassel, roll out green fondant 1/16 in. thick. Use knife to cut a strip, 6 in. long x 4 in. wide. Cut slits 1/8 in. wide, leaving 3/4 in. uncut at top of strip. Roll up strip. For knot, cut a strip, 1 in. long x 1/8 in. wide. Wrap around top of tassel. For band at top of tassel, roll out reserved ivory fondant 1/16 in. thick. Cut a strip, 1 1/2 in. long x 1/4 in. wide. Use damp brush to attach band to tassel. Plase tassel on side of cake, with fringe resting on cake pedestal.
For cord, roll two logs, 4 in. long x 1/16 in. dia. Twist logs together and position on cake top from button to tassel.
