Step 1

All ingredients should be at room temperature. Preheat oven to 350ºF. Spray 2 nine-inch round pans with vegetable pan spray.

Step 2

In a small bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. In mixer bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. All at once, add milk, eggs, vanilla and melted chocolate; mix well (mixture will not look smooth). Add flour mixture. Blend at medium speed 2-3 minutes or until mixture is smooth and thick, scraping down as needed. Pour batter into prepared pans.

Step 3

Bake 45-50 minutes or until cake tester inserted in center comes out clean. Cool cakes 10 minutes in pans. Unmold cakes onto cooling grid; cool completely. Frost as desired.

The first attempt, I didn't warm the milk and eggs to room temperature, so when I pour them and the melted chocolate into the butter-sugar mix, the chocolate solidified in little pieces. I redid it and warmed the milk and eggs in the microwave and cooled the chocolate (a little bit, but not to room temp) in the fridge. I only cooked it for 40 minutes and it was a little overdone but not bad. I would start checking on it around 32-35 minutes. Otherwise, it is a good recipe.
