Ingredients

  1. NEEDED: See the Supply List for items you can purchase here, plus our Buttercream Icing recipe. You will also need:
    • Your favorite cake mix or recipe (5-1/2 to 6 cups batter needed)
    • Ruler
    • 3 mixing bowls for tinting fondant and icing
  2. Fondant to be tinted. Use Color Right base colors and QuickCount color formulas to tint fondant in the following shades:

    • Light Yellow: 2 oz. white fondant + 1Y
    • Rose Red: 1 oz. white fondant + 5R + 1C

    Icing to be tinted. Use Color Right base colors and QuickCount color formulas to tint icing in the following shade:

    • Light Yellow: 4 cups white icing + 8Y

  3. Bake and cool cake. Use your favorite cake mix or recipe to make 5-1/2 to 6 cups of batter. Bake and cool cake.
  4. Tint fondant and icing. Tint fondant following QuickCount formulas provided above. Roll out yellow fondant to 1/8 inch thickness. Using a damp brush, attach fondant to doll. Cover doll’s body, trimming off excess fondant from back. Reserve red fondant for later step.

    Prepare buttercream icing following recipe instructions. Tint icing yellow following QuickCount formula provided.

  5. Ice cake. Place cake on cake circle and ice cake smooth with yellow icing. Place on Cake Dividing Chart. Use tip of 9 inch spatula to lightly mark lines in the icing, dividing cake into eight sections. Using 11 inch spatula for bottom of dress and 9 inch spatula for top of dress, make scallops around entire dress, starting at one dividing line and moving down and up to second line.

    Position doll in center of cake. Trim fondant as needed.

  6. Make fondant roses. Roll out reserved red fondant to 1/16 inch thickness. Make 11 strips, measuring 3/8 inch wide x 2-1/2 inches long. Use fondant ribbon rose technique to make flowers. Attach to waist and hair with remaining buttercream.
