It?s cheek-to-cheek chic as a fondant couple in silhouette dance above an art deco-styled fondant cake. Use Wilton Decorator Preferred Fondant and Color Mist food color spray for decorations that capture the sparkle and flair of a 1930s nightclub.
Make fondant couple topper and art deco panel 3 days in advance.Tint 3 oz. fondant black. Knead ½ teaspoon Gum-Tex into black fondant. Knead ½ teaspoon into 4 oz. white fondant. Reserve remaining white fondant.
Use fondant roller with blue guide rings to roll out black and white fondant, separately, 1/16 in. thick. Use knife and pattern to cut dancing couple in black fondant. For art deco panel, use knife and patterns to cut base and the following numbered panel sections in white fondant: two each number 1, 2, 3 and 4 and one 5. Let all pieces dry on cornstarch-dusted board for 2 days.
Make layered cake 1 day in advance. Prepare batter following recipe directions. Bake and cool three 6 in. cake layers.
Prepare buttercream icing following recipe directions. Prepare, stack and fill for a 3-layer cake, 6 in. high. Place cake on foil-wrapped board. Use spatula and icing to ice cake lightly. Reserve remaining white icing.
Decorate Cake. Use pearl Color Mist food color spray to spray cake. Let set, about 10 to 15 minutes. Use tip 3, cut disposable decorating bag and white icing to pipe bead bottom border.
Assemble art deco panel. Use gold food color spray to spray panels 1, 3 and 5. Use silver food color spray to spray panels 2 and 4. Let set, about 10 to 15 minutes.
Prepare thinned fondant adhesive following recipe directions. Use brush and thinned fondant adhesive to attach panel sections to base, leaving about 5/8 in. of base exposed at top and lining up points at bottom. Attach sections in numerical order, starting with section 1. Let set, about 30 minutes.
Attach lollipop stick to topper. Melt black Candy Melts candy according to package directions. Use melted black candy in cut disposable decorating bag to attach lollipop stick to back of topper, leaving 5 in. extended at bottom to insert into cake. Chill until firm, about 3 to 5 minutes. Use brush and white Pearl Dust edible accents to brush topper.
Assemble cake. Use tip 3, cut disposable decorating bag and buttercream icing to attach art deco panel to front of cake. Insert topper.
