Learn how to fine-tune your piping and fondant skills with this Cuddle n’ Snuggle Teddy Bear Cake. Great to use as a baby shower cake or for baby’s first birthday, this teddy bear cake is sure to please a crowd! Use Pastel Fondant to create a colorful quilted blanket for your teddy bear, and feel free to add a personalized message on the bottom of the quilt to help celebrate baby’s big day!
In advance: Prepare fondant blanket. Roll out pastel colors 1/8 in. thick and cut 4 in. squares, 3 in each color. Position on foil-wrapped board, beginning 1 in. from edges; secure with piping gel. Use ridged wheel of Cutter/Embosser to imprint quilting lines, 1 in. apart and at 45º angle. Add 1/2 teaspoon Gum-Tex to 8 oz. white fondant. Roll out 1/8 in. thick. Cut 1 in. strips and pleat to form ruffle. Attach to board with piping gel. Cover seam with tip 4 bead border.
Position bear cake on foil-wrapped cake board. Pipe in ears, eyes, paw pads and foot pads with tip 5; pipe in pupils, nose and mouth with tip 4 (smooth all with finger dipped in cornstarch). Cover bear with tip 16 stars.
Give your cake a great quilted look by embossing lines in a lattice pattern. Use the single-wheel Cutter/Embosser to create the imprinted lines. It?s a textured look that?s perfect for baby or garden-themed cakes.
The star tip creates the most celebrated, easily accomplished decorations! The serrated edges of the star tip make ridges in the icing as you squeeze it out. Because fill in requires so much piping from the same bag, keep replenishing icing in bag.

I did this bear (without diaper) on 12x18 sheet cake for my grandsons shower and it turned out great! This is such a good idea for baby showers!

I made this cake for a coworkers baby shower and used a sheet cake instead of just a board for the quilted bottom. This way the cake could be two flavors without guessing which part was chocolate & which was vanilla.
