City of Stars Cake

Scattered with bright purple and pink stars, this City of Stars Cake is great for beginning decorators.   1. Bake cake. Prepare cake batter following recipe instructions. Bake and cool three cake layers. Trim one layer to 1 in. high. Level other layers, then fill and stack for 5 in. high cake.
  2. Tint icing. Combine Rose and Violet icing colors to get light magenta color shown. Combine Violet and Rose icing colors to get light purple color shown. Combine Rose and Sky Blue icing colors to get dark magenta color shown. Using color combinations provided, tint ¼ cup icing each light magenta, light purple and dark magenta. Using Ivory icing color, tint ¼ cup ivory.
  3. Decorate cake. Prepare three decorating bags separately with tips 16, 21 and 32. Fill with desired shades of icing.

    Prepare two decorating bags with tip 2D and 1M. Using desired icing color, stripe bags. Fill with alternating icing color.

    Using all prepared bags, pipe various stars on edge of cake, forming crescent moon shape.

    Place cake on cake plate or serving dish. Prepare decorating bag with tip 1M and white icing. Pipe star border around bottom of cake.
