This Cute Christmas Garland Cake is a fun and festive way to celebrate Christmas with the family this year! Simply ice your cake with buttercream, then use a cake marker to make a line around your cake for the garland. After piping the leaves and berries, you can add cute “ornaments” using dot matrix icing decorations. A fun cake to make with the kids, this garland cake is a treat (almost) too cute to eat!
Bake cake. Prepare cake batter following recipe instructions. Bake and cool three cake layers. Level one layer to 1 in. high. Fill and stack layers for 5 in. high cake.
Ice cake smooth, using spatula to make swirl mark on top of cake.
Mark cake. Using ruler and cake marker, mark line around entire cake, 4 in. from bottom.
Tint icing. Tint ½ cup icing each light green and red using color combinations provided. Combine Leaf Green and Lemon Yellow icing colors to get light green color shown. Combine Christmas Red and Red-Red icing colors to get red color shown.
Using Juniper Green icing color, tint ½ cup icing dark green.
Reserve remaining icing white.
Decorate cake. Prepare three decorating bags with tip 3. Fill separately with light green, dark green and red icing.
Using light green icing, pipe horizontal line following mark on cake.
Using dark green icing, pipe needles along horizontal line. Repeat with remaining light green icing.
Using red icing, pipe berries along garland.
Prepare decorating bag with tip 1 and remaining white icing. Pipe vertical lines around cake, starting at bottom of garland and varying in length.
Attach various dot matrix icing decorations to bottom of each vertical line.
