Step 1


Prepare cake board. Use cupcake pan and 8 in. round pan as a guide to cut board 1/2 in. larger than pans on all sides. Wrap with foil.

Step 2

Bake and cool cupcake and 8 in. round cakes. Cakes are one layer. Use knife to trim 3/4 in. off top curve of round cake. Do not place on board.

Step 3

Assemble and ice cakes. Prepare buttercream icing following recipe directions. Tint portions copper (for skin tone shown) and black. Reserve remaining white.

Position cupcake cake on prepared board for chef?s hat. Use spatula and white icing to ice smooth. Use edge of spatula to score section lines in hat top. Use spatula and skin tone icing to ice trimmed end of round cake smooth. Position cake on board to meet hat. Ice remainder of round cake smooth.

Step 4

Decorate face. Use tip 5 and black icing to outline and pipe in crescent mouth, 2 in. wide x 1 in. high, and oval eyes, 5/8 in. and 1 1/2 in. apart. Use tip 5 and black icing to pipe outline eyebrows and mustache. Use tip 5 and skin tone icing to pipe oval nose, 1/8 in. x 5/8 in. high.
