This holiday season, create a gingerbread house that stands out from all others. Baked from scratch using Grandma’s Gingerbread Cookie Recipe and built using Wilton® royal icing, this house boasts clever remodeling beyond basic decorating. Make windows. Break up hard candy. Sprinkle inside windows and bake for 5 minutes until candy is melted. Cool completely.
Assemble house. Prepare royal icing following recipe directions. Place in decorating bag with tip 5. Pipe line of icing on edge of side panel and press it to front panel. Use cans to support house panels until icing dries. Repeat with side panel and back panel. Let dry 4 hours. Attach roof by piping icing along edge of front and back panels. Position roof panels, support with cans and let dry.
Decorate roof. Use royal icing and tip 5 to pipe a zigzag line along bottom edge of one roof panel. Position a row of candy melts candy. Pipe a zigzag line above first line and position candy melts, staggering candy. Cut wafers in half to fit aligned to the edge. Repeat to cover roof panels. Pipe a line of icing on roof peak and attach candy cane sticks.
Decorate house. Use royal icing and tip 2 to outline windows, windowpanes, door. Pipe scallops under roof eaves. Add fleur de lis at corners of windows, pipe dot doorknob and dot details at corners of side panels, under scallops, and above windows. Attach candy cane sticks to roof eaves. Pipe beads at corners of house.
