Spray outside pan
from bottom of
arms and down
sides with nonstick
cereal treat mixture;
mold into cloud shapes on parchment-covered
board. Immediately press cloud shapes
against sprayed area of pan to cover an area
5 in. x 18 in. and 2 1/2 in. thick, tapering to 1/4 in.
wide. Let cool. Roll out white fondant 1/8 in.
thick; cut a 22 in. x 6 1/2 in. strip; cover clouds,
shaping over raised areas with fingers and
trimming as needed. Let set. Slide pan away
and remove cloud.
Prepare base board. Tint 51 oz. fondant blue. Prepare and cover base board with 48 oz. blue fondant; reserve remainder.
Make rocket. Tint reserved blue darker; roll
out dark blue and 3 oz. white fondant 1/8 in. thick. Use pattern to cut out rocket. Use pattern and toothpick to mark window area on rocket and white fondant. Cut out window area from rocket; inlay with white window area. For window panes, cut
1/4 in. wide strips from blue fondant. Attach to windows with damp brush. Tint a 1/2 in. ball of fondant red. Roll out 1/8 in. thick. Cut two dot lights with narrow end of tip 1A. Attach to rocket with damp brush. Let dry on cornstarch-dusted surface. And: Make letters. Tint 3 oz. fondant yellow; knead in 1/8 teaspoon Gum-Tex. Roll out 1/8 in. thick. Use pattern to cut out letters. Let dry on cornstarch-dusted surface.
Bake and cool cake. Ice sides smooth. Pipe in eyes and teeth with tip 3; smooth with finger dipped in cornstarch. Pipe
in irises and pipe dot pupils with tip 1; pat smooth. Outline remaining details with tip 3. Use tip 3 to pipe in buttons, patches and bolts; pat smooth.
Cover suit, headpiece, face and eyebrows with tip 16 stars, fill in smaller areas with tip 13 stars.
Position cake and rocket on base board. Insert base of cake into clouds. Attach letters with icing.
The star tip creates the most celebrated, easily accomplished decorations! The serrated edges of the star tip make ridges in the icing as you squeeze it out. Because fill in requires so much piping from the same bag, keep replenishing icing in bag.
