Step 1

3 to 4 days in advance: Prepare base board. Using bottom of 15 in. pan as a guide, cut board in hexagon shape. Cover base board with 24 oz. black fondant. Reserve remaining fondant.

Step 2

Bake and cool 2-layer cakes. Prepare and cover cakes with black fondant. Prepare cakes for stacked construction.

Step 3

Add 2 teaspoons Gum-Tex to 18 oz. white fondant. Roll out fondant 1/16 in. thick, working with 3 oz. at a time. Use largest Cut-Out to cut 142 leaves. Place leaves under storage board flap until ready to use. Imprint veins on leaves using small end of veining tool. Place leaves on wave flower former for 10 to 20 minutes to create shape, turning some leaves over and placing in different positions to vary shape. Paint leaves with white Pearl Dust/lemon extract mixture.

Step 4

For 6 in. cake top, shape and position a 1 1/2 in. x 1 in. mound of black fondant. Attach leaves to mound with damp brush, overlapping to create flame look. Starting at the top edge of each side panel on 6 in. cake, attach your first batch of leaves with piping gel. Overlap and shape leaves slightly to create a wave effect. Support leaves with facial tissue, if needed to hold shape. Continue making and attaching batches of leaves as above, continuing down to base board.
