Step 1

Bake and cool 2-piece large cupcake. Use firm-textured batter such as pound cake.

Step 2

Make buttercream icing. Prepare icing following recipe directions. Tint portions orange, black, golden yellow/lemon yellow combination (for yellow), violet/rose combination (for violet), leaf green/lemon yellow combination (for green). Reserve a small porition of white.

Step 3

Decorate hat. For brim, use food-safe scissors to trim one 10 in. cake circle to 9 in. dia.; wrap with Fanci-Foil Wrap. Position top half of cupcake in center of circle. Use spatula and black icing to ice hat smooth, covering all indents. Use tip 18 and violet icing to pipe star hat band, 1 in. high. Use tip 18 and black icing to cover remainder of hat with stars. Brim will be piped after positioning hat on head.

Step 4

Decorate head. Position bottom half of cupcake, wide side down on foil-wrapped 10 in. cake circle. Use spatula and orange icing to ice top smooth. Use a toothpick to mark face area, 6 in. wide at base, tapering up to 5 in. wide at top edge. Use tip 18 and green icing to cover face with stars.

Use tip 22 and orange icing to cover remainder of head with pull-out star hair. Use tip 7 and black icing to pipe dot eyes, outline eyebrows and zigzag mouth. Pipe tip 7 and white icing to pipe tooth. Use tip 2A and green icing to pipe pull-out nose.

Step 5

Assemble cakes. Position hat on head. Use tip 18 to cover brim with stars, making sure to cover side edge. Use tip 18 and yellow icing to pipe stars for buckle, 1 3/4 in. wide x 1 1/2 in. high.
