One thing’s for sure, this Zombie Wakes Coffin Cake is ‘dying’ to be a part of your next Halloween celebration! Featuring gruesome detailing, this zombie cake is great for anyone who loves a little gore. A perfect cake for Halloween, zombie walks or zombie movie marathons, this creative Halloween cake uses the Skeleton in Casket 3D Pan to create the base for this cake. With an outline of a skeleton on the pan, this pan makes it easy to create and personalize your own creepy zombie however you’d like. Keep in mind that this cake does take a couple days to complete, so plan ahead if making this cake for a party!

Step 1

2 DAYS IN ADVANCE

Make casket lid. Knead 1 teaspoon Gum-Tex into 10 oz. chocolate fondant. Use 20 in. fondant roller to roll out 1/4 in. thick. Use fondant trimmer and top of Dimensions skeleton in casket pan as a guide to cut casket lid. Use knife to mark woodgrain lines in fondant. Let dry 48 hours on cornstarch-dusted cake board.

Step 2

1 DAY IN ADVANCE

Make cake. Bake and cool cake in casket pan. Prepare chocolate buttercream icing following recipe directions. Use tip 1D, smooth side up, and chocolate icing to pipe sides of casket. Use knife tip to mark woodgrain lines.

Use tip 45 and chocolate icing to pipe in top and inside of casket. Pat smooth with finger dipped in cornstarch.

Step 3

Make zombie. Prepare buttercream icing following recipe directions. Tint portions moss green/black combination (for green), red-red/black combination (for red), royal blue/black combination (for blue) and white/black combination (for gray). Reserve some white. Use tip 5 and green icing to pipe a head and foot. Pat smooth. Use tip 5 and blue icing to pipe outline legs. Pat smooth. Use tip 5 and grey icing to pipe shirt. Pat smooth. Use tip 3 and green icing to pipe pull-out hands and thumbs and bead feet. Use spatula to score divisions for fingers. Pat smooth. Use tip 5 and gray icing to pipe outline cuffs.

Step 4

Decorate zombie. Position candy eyeballs. Use tip 2 to pipe pull-out hair in white, outline eyebrows and bags under eyes in black, bead nose in green, and dot teeth in white.

Use spatula to cut out wound areas. Use tips 2 and 3 and white icing to pipe outline bones. Use red decorating gel to overpipe wound areas.

Step 5

DAY OF CELEBRATION

Assemble cake. Position casket lid against cake. Place shortbread cookies in a plastic sandwich bag. Use fondant roller to crush cookies to a fine texture. Mix with silver Pearl Dust to create dirt. Brush lid with piping gel. Sprinkle lid and cake with dirt.
