Step 1

4 DAYS IN ADVANCE

Make crane parts. Prepare 1/2 recipe crisped rice cereal treats following recipe directions. Press a portion of mixture into large Cut-Out from rounds Cut-Outs fondant cutters to make round crane platform. For base, shape remaining cereal treats into a pyramid, 3 in. high. Front and back sides should be 1.5 in. wide at base and taper to 3/4 in. wide at top. Left and right sides should be 1 in. wide at base and taper to 1/4 in. wide at top.

Melt white Candy Melts candy according to package directions. Use black candy color from garden candy color set to tint 1.5 oz. melted candy black. Use spatula and melted black candy to ice bottom of round crane platform smooth . Chill until firm, 5 to 10 minutes. Position on cooling grid over parchment paper-covered board. Cover platform with melted black candy. Tap to settle. Chill until firm, 10 to 15 minutes. Use a little black candy color to tint 2.5 oz. melted white candy gray. Cover pyramid-shaped base with melted gray candy. Chill until firm, 10 to 15 minutes.

Use black icing color to tint 3 oz. gum paste light gray. For claw bar, roll 3/8 oz. gum paste into a log, 1/2 in. dia. x 5 in. long. For claw cable, roll a gum paste log, 1/8 in. dia. x 3 in. long. Let all pieces dry overnight on cornstarch-dusted board.

For claw fingers, use 9 in. fondant roller with purple guide rings to roll out gray gum paste 1/8 in. thick. Use knife to cut three strips, 1/4 in. wide x 2.5 in. long. Shape into curves and round at one end. Let dry overnight on concave section of large wave flower former, dusted with cornstarch. Reserve remaining gum paste.

Step 2

3 DAYS IN ADVANCE

Make claw joint. Roll a ball of gray gum paste, 3/4 in. dia. Shape into a cone, 3/4 in. high x 3/4 in. wide at base. Use claw fingers to indent three openings on bottom. Use claw cable to indent top center.

Step 3

2 DAYS IN ADVANCE

Assemble crane. Prepare gum glue adhesive following recipe directions. Use adhesive to assemble crane. Attach crane base to round platform, positioning wide side toward front. Let set 30 minutes. Attach claw bar to base, angling so that 1 in. of bar hangs off back of base. Let set 1 hour. Attach claw fingers in indents at bottom of claw joint. Use 13-count Cupcakes-N-More dessert stand, turned on its side, to support claw bar. Attach claw cable in indent at top of claw joint. Let set 3 hours. Attach other end of cable to claw bar. Let set 3 hours. Use brush and silver Pearl Dust/lemon extract mixture to paint all parts and base. Let dry 3 hours.

Step 4

DAY OF CELEBRATION

Bake and cool 12 cupcakes. Prepare buttercream icing following recipe directions. Tint royal blue/ sky blue combination (for blue). Use spatula and blue icing to ice cupcakes smooth.

Step 5

Assemble treats. Use tip 10 and blue icing to pipe a ball at center of each cupcake. Position Toy Story icing decoration. Position cupcakes in stand. Use melted candy to attach crane to top of stand.
