Instructions:

Step 1

Tint medium consistency icing with petal colors and a small amount of icing Lemon Yellow Icing Color. Fit one decorating bag with petal decorating tip 104 and fill 1/2 full or less with petal tinted icing. Fit second decorating bag with petal decorating tip 1 and fill 1/ full or less with yellow tinted icing.

Step 2

Attach flower nail template, if using, to Flower Nail. Using a dot of icing, attach icing flower square to flower nail.

Step 3

Hold the decorating bag with tip 104 and petal icing at a 45° angle at 3:00 (9:00 for lefthanded decorators) with wide end of tip lightly touching the center of the nail; narrow end is pointing out and angled 1/4 in. above the nail surface. Pipe two back petals, squeezing and moving tip out to edge of nail. Turn nail 1/4 turn slowly while squeezing; relax pressure as you move back to center of nail, allowing the movement of the nail to form the first petal. Stop squeezing; pull tip away. Repeat to form second back petal.

Step 4

With decorating bag still at a 45° angle at 3:00 (9:00 for left-handed decorators), with wide end of tip lightly touching the back petal at the center of the flower, raising the narrow end of the tip slightly, pipe a smaller flower petal on top of first petal. Repeat to form second front petal.

Step 5

For bottom petal, rotate flower nail 180° to work on the open portion of the nail. Hold the decorating bag with tip 104 at a 45° angle at 3:00 (9:00 for left-handed decorators) with wide end of tip lightly touching the center of the nail; narrow end is pointing out and angled 1/4 in. above the nail surface. Squeeze out a single bottompetal that equals the width of the two back petals, using a slight back and forth hand motion for a ruffled effect.

Step 6

For flower center, hold decorating bag with yellow icing and tip 1 at a 90° angle to the center of the flower nail. Pipe a tip 1 string loop center onto the bottom single petal.

Step 7

Remove flower on flower square from flower nail. For a more natural shape, place in the large concave portion of the Wave Flower Former to dry overnight.

Step 8

Hints

Make your pansy petals multi-toned by using a striped decorating bag or by painting in colors at the flower’s center or edge with a fine brush dipped in a small amount of clear vanilla which has been tinted with icing color.

If one of your petal colors is yellow, use a coupler to easily change to tip 1 for the center loop.
