Diamond Ring Topper


Step 1

For band, roll out gum paste 3/8 in. thick. Cut a strip 7/8 in. x 16 in. Shape into a circle, attaching ends with gum glue adhesive. Let dry on cut side on cornstarch- dusted board. For scrolls, roll out gum paste 1/8 in. thick. Cut two strips, 1/2 in x 5 in. Lay on cut side on scroll patterns.

Step 2

Roll out remaining gum paste 1/16 in. thick. For prongs, cut four strips, 3/8 in. x 2 1/8 in. Let dry on large side of wave flower former.

Step 3

For diamond, use pattern to cut four triangle bottoms, four trapezoid sides and one square top. Let dry 1 day. Chill pieces before attaching as follows with melted candy: Attach edges of triangles to form a 3-D pyramid; chill until firm. Attach wide edges of trapezoids to flat edges at bottom of pyramid; chill.

Step 4

Attach square top; chill. Overpipe seams with tip 1 and melted candy.

Step 5

Mix crushed white Cake Sparkles with white Pearl Dust. Brush diamond with piping gel; cover with mixture. Paint remaining ring pieces with gold Pearl Dust/ lemon extract mixture. Attach scrolls to band and prongs to diamond corners with melted candy.

Step 6

Attach diamond to top of ring. Let dry. For cake topper base, mold a black candy disk, 1/4 in. thick, using second smallest circle cutter on non-stick cookie sheet; chill until firm. Attach to topper with melted candy; chill.
