2 to 3 days in advance: Make cookies. Prepare and roll out dough, 1/4 in. thick for guitar and
arms, 1/8 in. thick for other cookies. Cut letters using desired cutters; trace patterns for arms,
hands, guitar and notes and cut with knife. Bake and cool cookies, baking guitar separately.
Cover guitar, notes and letters with thinned Color Flow icing. Tap to settle. Let
dry 24 hours. Decorate with full-strength Color Flow icing. Use tip 3 to outline and fill in 1 in.
black circles on notes; pat smooth with finger dipped in cornstarch. Use tip 3 to outline body
and head of guitar in dark blue. Use tip 2 to outline and fill in bridge, neck, control knobs and
tuning pegs in gray; pat smooth. Overpipe outline on control knobs with tip 3 in dark blue.
Use tip 2 to pipe strings and overpipe outlines on tuning pegs and bridge in black.
Bake and cool cake. Decorate with buttercream icing. Ice sides and background areas
smooth with thinned black icing.
Use tip 3 to outline and fill in mouth, tongue, teeth and
sponge holes; pat smooth. Use pattern to mark sunglasses. Outline and fill in sunglasses
with tip 7 and black icing, building up to about 1/4 in. thick. Pipe tip 7 white highlights. Use tip
3 and black icing to outline pants, legs, shoes, nose and smile lines.
Cover SpongeBob with
tip 16 stars. Pipe background dots in light and dark blue and dark rose, using tips 3, 7 and
10. Attach guitar, arms and hands with icing. Outline arm and hands with tip 3 in black; fill in
with tip 16 stars in yellow.
The star tip creates the most celebrated, easily accomplished decorations! The serrated edges of the star tip make ridges in the icing as you squeeze it out. Because fill in requires so much piping from the same bag, keep replenishing icing in bag.
