Rated 4 out of 5 by from I only had to feed 10-15 people and made this cake with half quantity of ingredients. I also did half chocolate and half vanilla and simply cut each cake disc in half and placed on top of one another with whip cream icing in middle to avoid mixing up the flavours for the picky eaters. I then cut the discs down to size to create the three layer cake. I used buttercream coloured for the crumb and exterior coats which worked great. I used fondant for the butterflies but simply piped tip 3 antennae onto the butterflies wing exterior and it dried nicely with no breakage. Once you figure out how to personalize this cake its actually very simple to make. Butterfly creation wasn't that hard, wasn't very time consuming after the first one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I did this cake for my daughter's 1st birthday and it was my first attempt at a 3-layer cake! I'm happy to share that guests were very impressed. The other little girls were clamoring to get the butterflies and flowers for themselves! To cover the cake, I used colored buttercream (yellow) instead of Blue Color Mist and modified the butterfly colors to pink and lavender. I had problems with the butterfly antennae breaking off lots of times though. Any tips for this small problem?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I have made this cake twice. The first time was for a first Birthday and the second time was for a second Birthday. It was a fairly easy cake to do. However the only difficulty I encountered were the antenea's. I found them to be very fragile and broke easily when just moving them. That is why I gave this a medium rating in difficulty. I did not use the spray. I just used colored butter cream to frost the cakes. Both cakes received great reviews. I highly recommend this idea.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect for a girl baby shower, went well with Carters baby butterfly theme. Fondant butterflies are a pain but very pretty(make a few days in advance and a few extra because fondant cracks and breaks sometimes). Spray color was easy and quick. Antenna's were hard to keep from breaking so I piped them on the closes part of the wings to the head and they looked fine. If you don't like the traditional fondant try the marshmallow one but it needs to be made days in advance.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I loved this cake and I made a version of it for my daughter's baptism - she was 7 when she was baptized. Butterflies are a symbol of new life. However, I made the butterflies from molded chocolates in the colors she selected. Everyone loved it! It is a good design for various ages and the colors can be easily customized for any little girl.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I like the look of this cake but as a word of caution to those who charge for their cakes to consider the time decorating the butterflies (have to be done several days in advance) and flowers before setting your price. These decorations are time consuming. I also advise using black gumpaste for the antennae.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is such a pretty little cake. You can never go wrong with butterfulies. This is a sweet cake for a little girl. I have been looking for some ideas for butterflies, other than the shaped pan, and this butterfly cake idea is just right: simple and elegant.
