Step 1

2 DAYS IN ADVANCE

Make spikes. For each treat, tint a 1.25 oz. ball of fondant orange. Knead 1/8 teaspoon Gum-Tex into fondant. Use 9 in. fondant roller with purple guide rings to roll out 1/8 in. thick.

Use Stegosaurus cutter from 101 cookie cutters set to cut two dinosaurs. For tail, use knife to cut a spike section, 3 in. wide x 7/8 in. high. For back, cut a spike section, 3 in. wide x 1.5 in. high. Let dry 24 hours on cornstarch-dusted board. Reserve remaining orange fondant.

Step 2

1 DAY IN ADVANCE

Bake cakes. Prepare your favorite white cake mix according to package directions. Tint batter orange. Bake and cool cake in 12 in. x 18 in. x 1 in. jelly roll and cookie pan following recipe directions. Use knife to level cake to 1/2 in. high. For each treat, cut nine strips, 3/8 in. wide x 2 1/2 in. long.

Step 3

Assemble treat pops. Prepare buttercream icing following recipe directions. Tint orange. Position one cake strip in treat pop. Use tip 230 and orange icing to pipe a line on each side of strip to hold in place. Repeat for seven more strips around treat pop. Position one strip in center. Use tip 230 and orange icing to fill treat pop. Use spatula to smooth top. Fill treat pop cap with icing; smooth with spatula. Position cap on treat pop.

Step 4

Decorate treat pops. For each treat, tint a 3/4 in. ball of white fondant violet/rose combination (for violet). Use 9 in. fondant roller with pink guide rings to roll out fondant 1/16 in. thick. For spots, use wide and narrow end of tip 12 to cut circles. For mouth, use wide end of tip 2A to cut one circle. Move tip in 3/8 in. to cut crescent-shaped mouth. For nose, roll an orange fondant ball, 3/4 in. dia. For feet, use reserved orange fondant to shape four balls, 1/2 in. wide. Melt orange Candy Melts candy according to package directions. Use melted candy in cut parchment bag to attach spots, mouth, nose, feet and candy eyeballs to treat pop. Chill until firm, 3 to 5 minutes. Use melted candy to attach back and tail spikes. Chill until firm.
