Step 1

3 DAYS IN ADVANCE

Make SpongeBob candy plaque. Melt white, light cocoa and yellow Candy Melts candy, separately, according to package directions. Use primary and garden candy color sets to tint melted white candy as follows: 6 1/2 oz. black, 1/2 oz. blue and 1 oz. red. Lighten 2 oz. melted light cocoa candy with 1 oz. white candy.

Use melted candy in cut parchment bags to mold plaque in SpongeBob SquarePants pan as follows: Pipe in white teeth and dot highlight on shoes. Chill until firm, 3 to 5 minutes. Pipe in black shoes and pupils. Chill until firm, 10 to 15 minutes. Pipe in red tie and tongue. Chill until firm, 3 to 5 minutes. Pipe in black mouth and stitches on shorts. Chill until firm, 3 to 5 minutes. Pipe in blue irises and white socks. Chill until firm, 3 to 5 minutes. Pipe in yellow legs. Chill until firm, 3 to 5 minutes. Pipe in light brown shorts. Chill until firm, 10 to 15 minutes. Pipe in white shirt, eyes and sleeves. Chill until firm, 10 to 15 minutes.

Fill remaining areas of pan except between legs with melted yellow candy. Chill until firm, 20 to 25 minutes. Pipe in white area between legs. Chill until firm, 10 to 15 minutes. Unmold plaque. Use melted candy in cut parchment bag to pipe details: red cheeks and bottom lip, black eyelashes, white shoelaces and blue and red sock stripes. Let set.

Step 2

Make fondant gifts and cake. Tint 1 oz. white fondant sky blue, 1 oz. red-red/Christmas red combination (for red), 1.25 oz. rose, 1.25 oz. leaf green, 1.25 oz. violet/rose combination (for violet) and a 1/2 in. ball lemon yellow/golden yellow combination (for yellow). Reserve 3 oz. white.

Knead 1/4 teaspoon Gum-Tex into white fondant. Use 9 in. fondant roller with purple guide rings to roll out 1/8 in. thick. Use patterns and knife to cut gift base and cake base, cutting out entire pattern. Roll out all fondant colors 1/8 in. thick. Use pattern and knife to cut rose cake. Use damp brush to attach to white cake base. Use pattern and knife to cut green gift at bottom of stack. Use narrow end of veining tool from 10-pc. gum paste/ fondant tool set to mark corner of gift. Use damp brush to attach to white gift base. Use pattern and knife to cut violet gift and lid. Attach. Cut red and blue gifts and mark corners as for green gift. Attach.

Step 3

Make fondant details. Use 9 in. fondant roller with pink guide rings to roll out blue, rose and yellow fondant 1/16 in. thick. For gift ribbons, use knife to cut strips, 1/4 in. wide x height of each gift. Use damp brush to attach contrasting colors to gifts. Use pattern and knife to cut rose gift bow. Roll a rose ball, 1/4 in. dia. for knot. Attach.

For cake garlands, roll white logs, 1/8 in. dia. x 13/8 in. long. Use damp brush to attach to cake. Roll a white dot, 1/4 in. dia. Attach at garland point. For candles, roll out white fondant 1/16 in. thick. Use knife to cut strips, 3/4 in. wide x 3/8 in. high. For flame, shape a 1/4 in. yellow ball into a teardrop. Attach candles and flames. Let all pieces dry 24 hours on cornstarch-covered board.

Step 4

2 DAYS IN ADVANCE

Assemble candy plaque. Use melted white candy in cut parchment bag to attach a plastic dowel rod 3/4 in. from each side of plaque, leaving 3 in. extending at bottom. Use melted candy to attach a lollipop stick to back of gift stack for added support. Use candy to attach gifts on left side of plaque and cake on right side. Use melted yellow candy in cut parchment bag to pipe fingers on cake and gifts.

Step 5

1 DAY IN ADVANCE

Bake and cool 12 in. round and 10 in. round cakes.12 in. cake is two layers, 4 in. high. 10 in. cake is one layer, 3 in. high.

Prepare buttercream icing following recipe directions. Tint small portions Christmas red/red-red combination (for red), violet/rose combination (for violet), leaf green/lemon yellow combination (for green), lemon yellow/golden yellow combination (for yellow), rose, bright sky blue and orange. Tint remainder light royal blue.

Use spatula and light blue icing to ice cakes smooth. Prepare cakes for stacked construction and position on 14 in. cake base. Use candy plaque to mark placement of plastic dowel rods in cake. Cut bamboo rods to 7 in. high. Insert at marks through both tiers. Use tip 3 and light blue icing to pipe bead bottom borders.

Step 6

Decorate details. Use tip 8 and red icing to print name. Use toothpick to mark flower pattern on 12 in. cake. Use tip 3 in all colors to pipe outline flowers, streamers and dot confetti on cake sides.

Step 7

DAY OF CELEBRATION

Assemble cake.Insert candy plaque in cake top, positioning plastic dowel rods over wooden dowel rods. Tape violet satin ribbon to side of cake base.
