Step 1

In advance: Make Spider-Man candy plaque. Make plaque using melted candy in cut parchment bags. Melt white candy; tint 18 oz. blue/violet, (combine Blue and Violet candy colors for blue candy shown) 6 oz. black; reserve 4 oz. white. Fill in blue areas of design (no webbing). Tap to settle; chill until firm. Fill in whites of eyes and black spider on chest; chill until firm. Melt red candy; fill in plaque to 3/4 in. deep. Tap to settle; chill until firm. Unmold onto waxed paper-covered board. Use melted black candy to pipe webbing and figure details. Chill until firm. Attach two lollipop sticks to back with melted candy, leaving 4 in. extended.

Step 2

Prepare bases and cakes for assembly as follows: Wrap four foamcore squares with foil to make bases. Prepare bases for Center Column Construction, marking bottom base in center, second base 2 in. from right edge at vertical center, third base 2 1/2 in. from left edge at vertical center, fourth base 2 in. from right edge at vertical center. Cut holes about 1 1/4 in. diameter.

Step 3

Tint fondant: 49 oz. blue, 49 oz. red, 98 oz. yellow. Remove 1 oz. each from red and blue tinted fondant, 2 oz. from yellow. Lighten blue and red with 4 oz. of white fondant; lighten yellow with 8 oz. of white.

Step 4

Bake and cool 3-layer square cakes (bake two layers 1 1/2 in. high and one layer 2 in. high for 5 in. high cakes). Mark cakes for Center Column Construction, following board markings and position on boards. Prepare cakes and bases for rolled fondant; cover bottom cake/base with red, second and fourth cakes/bases with yellow, third cake/base with blue. Smooth with Fondant Smoother.

Step 5

Cut four dowel rods each for bottom three cakes, two extending 1/16 in. at top. In top cake insert two dowel rods where candy plaque will sit. Prepare cakes for Stacked Construction and assemble. Roll out light tinted fondant 1/8 in. thick. Cut 1 1/2 in. wide strips for ribbon to fit each cake; attach with damp brush. Using royal icing, pipe tip 3 outline webs, starting at center and piping diagonal lines to edges. Pipe tip 3 swags to connect lines. Insert candy plaque in cake top; secure to exposed pillar at top with melted candy.
