Step 1

Make cupcakes. Prepare cupcake batter following recipe directions. Bake and cool 2-piece mini cupcakes. Prepare buttercream icing. Tint portions black, yellow, orange, green and red. Reserve some white.

Step 2

Assemble cupcakes. Use spatula to ice top of bottom cupcake half smooth in white. Position top cupcake half.

Step 3

Decorate bottom cupcake half. Use spatula and black icing to ice mouth area smooth.

Use tip 8 and yellow and orange icing to pipe alternating stripes on sides of bottom cupcake half.

Step 4

Decorate top cupcake half. Use tip 2A and white icing to cover top half with a swirl. Use tip 2A and yellow icing to pipe ball eyes. Use tip 2 and black icing to pipe dot pupils. Use tip 6 and red icing to pipe ball nose.

For hat, use tip 1A and green icing to pipe pull-out cone shape. For base of hat and pompom, use tip 13 and orange icing to pipe pull-out star fringe.

Use tip 3 and red icing to pipe outline No. 1.
