Step 1

At least 3 days in advance, make gum paste flowers following flower cutter set directions: Make 3 large cutter full-bloom roses on toothpicks instead of wire, 4 large cutter rosebuds and 3 small cutter rosebuds. Let dry.

Step 2

On cake circle, using pan as pattern, trace heart 2 in. wider than pan. Cut two heart boards with craft knife, tape together and cover with rose-tinted fondant.

Step 3

Prepare and cover cake with fondant; smooth. Position on fondant-covered board. Make scalloped frame: Cut five fondant blossoms using second largest blossom cutter. Using ruler, cut each blossom into three sections, with two outer sections of 3 petals each. (Small center section will not be used.) Brush backs of 3-petal pieces with water and position on board under cake.

Step 4

Imprint leaf designs on cake with rose leaf cutter from flower set. Outline leaves with tip 2 and immediately use brush embroidery technique, completing leaves one at a time. Pipe tip 1 center vein; add tip 1 tendrils and position roses and rosebuds. On fondant scallops, outline with tip 4 and pipe tip 1 lines.

I rolled the fondant and then placed it on the cake smoothing the top and v portion of the heart working back towards the m or top of heart because I could use the crease to prevent wrinkles, this worked out really well and made the cake quite smooth. When I marked the leafs, I actually placed the roses in the position I wanted first then marked the leafs, removed the flowers and finished the leafs and then replaced the flowers so that it looked more natural. My husband thought it was pretty.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simply beautiful cake that you can add or change design. I made this cake with regular heart shape pans. I used two sizes a 9" inch pan and a 6" pan. I stacked the smaller cake on top and put the roses on top and added a pink shell border along the bottom sides on both layers. This gave the cake a real colorful look and design. It really made the the lace on the cake stand out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I made this cake for Valentine's Day this year, my family loved it, I did not make any changes except that I added real 100% organic vanila extract to the fondant paste beacuse I wantd to give it an old fashion tone color, more retro in time, it came our perfect and my family loved it, I will make it sometime again. Thank you

Both times, it came out wonderful, and the couples really loved them! This is perfect for any romantic occasion, and because the spray of roses frames the cake, it's easy to write a personalized message if desired.
