Rated 4 out of 5 by PhoebesMom from I have made countless wedding cakes using several different methods for a Fairy Tale Castle result, so I need to tell whoever is using this kit to stop trying to transport it all put together!!! NO ONE with any experience EVER transports multi-layer cakes, wedding cakes, or tiered cakes of any kind, all in tact. It is impossible. Yes, you have to take icing with you to your destination so when you set up the cake you can "finish" it with trim, etc., but that's what anyone who has been making tiered cakes does... ALWAYS. Stop watching movies of people carrying three, four, five, six tiered cakes in the back of a van to a wedding reception. It doesn't happen in real life :o)

Rated 3 out of 5 by SweetCelebrations from It's a great set which if designed properly would be super awesome. The biggest challenge is that there is no support system for the towers to make them stand upright - they get top heavy once you add on the roofs. I drilled holes into the towers as suggested and added skewers - this made transportation a little less of a nightmare but did not ease the setup. You HAVE to core the cake to put the towers in otherwise the cake ( like mine) will break. The next time I use this set I will use rice crispies for the top layer with tunnels for the towers cored out - the end result is beautiful but I just don't understand how anyone can be successful with this set if they JUST followed the instructions from Wilton.

Rated 1 out of 5 by NavyWifeStT from If I could give this zero stars, I would. As others have said, this is a horrible product. I've decorated and sold many cakes over the last few years, and I've never had more trouble with a cake than I've had with this one, even when I was a beginner many years ago. The towers are very poorly designed. They're extremely top heavy, and even with dowels do not stay in the cake. The roofs would attach a little better to the turrets if they weren't hollow. Getting any of the turrets to stick to the cake board was difficult, again because they're so top heavy. How anyone can get gum drops to stick to the top of the roofs without super glue is beyond me. All in all, this is a HORRIBLE product. I'm glad I didn't pay full price for it. I'll be throwing it away.

Rated 1 out of 5 by firstname.lastname@example.org from As said by MANY others, this set is a BIG PAIN to try to use effectively. The pieces can be difficult to frost/decorate (& keep the icing/sprinkles on)- esp since you have to touch them SO many times to put everything back into place. The towers are WAY TOO TOP HEAVY and you must go to great lengths to create your own effective "make-shift" method of stability to the structure. There are very significant changes that need to be made to the engineering design of this cake set. I wish I'd kept my receipt. I don't think I'll ever take the time and effort to attempt a cake with this set EVER again!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by That's Cake? from I can't believe that Wilton would endorse this very inferior product. Unfortunately, the horrible engineering takes away from an otherwise beautiful product. The concept of ease of use and grand design is amazing. If only someone in Wilton would add a foot brace that slides under the cake on the 4 large outer towers. These could even be made removable. Wilton could take it over the top for pennies. Just by preventing the toppling towers. Since the kit is what it is.....people make sure to add some kind of counter weight. I used a 4 inch long popsicle stick glued to the bottom and inserted under my cake. Make sure it is not off balance. I then covered the gap with buttercream grass. Be creative and have fun Caking!

Rated 5 out of 5 by LuckyTrace from I fell in love with this kit when I was in the hospital (due to Leukemia) and just had to have it. Since then, I have made two birthday cakes using the Romantic Castle Cake Set. The first one I made, I used all of the pieces and the second one I did not use them all because the people wanted a smaller cake. Both of these cakes were for girls that were having a "princess" theme. I am keeping this cake set so I can make my sister or brother's wedding cake (or both). I really enjoyed making the castle birthday cakes because with this kit, I could use as much or little as I wanted. I enjoy experimenting with the different colors and possibilities with this cake kit. I cannot wait to make a haunted castle for halloween.

Rated 1 out of 5 by cakeladee49 from Hello all, I purchased this set for two customers this past weekend and needless to say it was a disaster with both cakes. The assembly was not difficult but trying to transport these cakes using this Romantic Castle Cake set was horrific, both cakes fell apart. As a result I refunded money to both clients as it was the right thing to do. Even with adding the dowel rods to the bottom of the turrets they still filled over onto the cakes. I have seen that several people have experienced the same issue. This is an absolutely beautiful set and would like to see Wilton make a better construction of it, warn customers if the potential problem with transportingiit discontinue the set. GREATLY disappointed and will never make this cake again!

Rated 4 out of 5 by aussiejewels from After reading the review i was horrified that I had promised this cake to my 9 year old daughter already. I pressed on, even though I am an absolute beginner. First time using fondant, first time making flowers out of royal icing, first time making a tiered cake! It took me 20+ hours (not including the two weeks of practicing all of the recipes and skills!). I have to agree with others - once you make it, do not move it! My hubby drilled holes in the towers on the first and second tier and they stayed in place with slushy straws. It was absolutely worth it for the look on my daughters face and all of the oohs and ahhs from guests and facebook friends, but I will not be in a hurry to try this again any time soon! Beautiful looking cake!
