Snow Days
The dead of winter is upon us once again. It is time to bring out the heaviest of sweaters and mittens to get through the blistering cold conditions. Children get through the school day with anticipation of building snowmen, sledding, ice skating and, of coarse, the infamous snowball fight on the way home from school.
Usually once a year there comes that wonderful day when children wake up for yet another day of school, they look out the window and see snow, a lot of snow. As fast as their little feet can move, they make their way to the nearest television or radio and they sit and pray. They wait to hear that their school is closed for the day. Some children go back to bed; while others run in circles not knowing what to do with themselves. For most children it is typically the latter.
Wilton has some great ideas to make a snow day into a family fun day. Everyone knows the first thing children want to do on a snow day is to play outside, as long as it is not too cold out. The whole family can partake in an outdoor activity by building a snowman. Items needed for this project are:
- Broom
- Old hat and scarf
- A lot of snow
- Carrot
- 10 pieces of coal
After the snowman is completed bring the kids in from the cold and warm their hearts with some seasonal fun treats. First, get them started with some hot chocolate, made with real milk and Wilton's Candy Melts™, to warm those cold noses and toes. While the children are settling in by the fireplace, gather the ingredients for a creative lunch. Snowman shaped pizza is on the menu. Let your children get creative in how they decorate the pizza with their favorite toppings.
The options for dessert are endless with Wilton using the copper and Comfort Grip™ cookie cutters. The family can make snowman or snowflake shaped cookies or rice krispie treats and decorate them with candy or royal icing. While the candy is out from the hot chocolate, have your kids make lollipops with the snowman lollipop mold. No matter what activities you decide to do with your children, they will enjoy spending the day with the family and so will you.
