Let the Kitchen be Your Classroom
Wilton Projects Provide a Learning Environment for Children
According to a survey conducted by Wilton Enterprises, 98% of children ages five and older help parents prepare food in the kitchen. Adults are looking for creative ways to use this time to teach children beneficial skills. In fact, there are a variety of kitchen projects that kids can manage with the guidance and supervision of their parents. Wilton has created a few activities that will promote learning, organizational skills and bonding between parent and child.
"Many parents believe there is a host of benefits for children who assist in the kitchen," states Nancy Siler, consumer affairs director of Wilton Enterprises. "Kitchen activities provide a platform for boosting children's self confidence and creativity."
Make a Creative Cookie
Floating Butterflies Giant Cookie can be a fun project when this sugar cookie takes flight. With a butterfly cookie cutter, children can cut out beautiful butterflies to place on top of a round giant cookie. When it is time for decorating, have children apply stencils to the butterfly cookies and spray Color Mist™ to create colorful designs. This can be the centerpiece for a Sunday family dinner or an alternative birthday cake.
Teach with Treats
Stimulate learning during lunch with a quick class in arithmetic. Count N' Spell Gels to add a sweet treat to the lesson plan. Your child can slowly stir the mixture as you handle the pouring, since the mixture is very hot. Using gelatin and alphabet and numeral candy molds you can create an afternoon snack for those hungry for homework. Kids can practice spelling their names, phone numbers and basic mathematics.
Pop into Sports
Take popcorn balls to a new level with Sporty Popcorn Balls. These popcorn creations can be "thrown" together with little effort and provide an easy, no-bake project for kids. Simply take a large batch of popcorn and stir in melted Candy Melts® along with jimmies and nonpareils to add extra flavor and color. To decorate the balls for sporting events, place baseball, football or soccer icing decorations on top and place them in sport-themed baking cups.
