A Lesson Kids Can Really Sink Their Teeth Into
“Wilton Icing Fun Kids' Project” Cake Decorating Curriculum Makes Teaching Kids a Piece of Cake
Whether it’s mixing batter or decorating with icing, kids love to help in the kitchen. So why not turn their baking enthusiasm into a fun and meaningful group activity? With the new “Wilton Icing Fun Kids’ Project,” now it’s a piece of cake to teach groups of kids the basics of cake decorating.
Ideal for children ages nine and older, “Wilton Icing Fun Kids’ Project” allows adults to walk kids through each decorating step, demonstrate techniques and assist while they practice on their own pre-baked cookies or cupcakes. The program takes 90 minutes to two hours, making it a great group activity for gatherings from birthday parties to scout meetings.
“Parents feel the time their kids spend assisting in the kitchen helps build self confidence and establish organizational skills” said Nancy Siler, Wilton Enterprises vice president of consumer affairs and director of the Wilton School of Cake Decorating and Confectionary Art. “This new curriculum provides a great way for adults to help instill those skills while giving kids a fun, creative outlet that will hopefully lead to a lifelong love of food preparation and decorating.”
Wilton provides everything needed to get started. The lesson plan, decorating ideas, practice sheets, merit patch designs and course certificates can all be downloaded for free, and a small kit with basic decorating tools can be purchased for a discounted price of $3.99 per child. It couldn’t be simpler!
