Making the Most of Your Baking Pans

Whether you kitchen is stocked with basic pans like muffin, loaf and tube, or if you have some of Wilton's shaped and mini version, there's lots more you can do with them than bake a basic cake. Have you considered:

  • Corn bread
  • Gingerbread
  • Bread (from hot roll mix, frozen bread dough or from bread machine)
  • Gelatin molds, frozen gelatin salads, gelatin "wiggles"
  • Ice molds
  • Stratas
  • Cheesecakes
  • Bread pudding
  • Cereal treats
  • Brownies, bar, cookies
  • Fudge
  • Tarts, quiches

For Example:

Baby Bear Sandwiches--Bake bread dough in Wilton's Mini Bear Shaped Pans. Cool; split each in half and layer with favorite sandwich fixings. Kids love all sorts of shaped sandwiches.

Ring Mold Fettucine--Oil Wilton's 10-inch Ring Mold Pan; cook 2 packages (12 ounces each) dried fettucine (spinach, regular or a combination ) according to package directions. Drain, rinse and pack firmly into mold. Unmold onto serving platter; fill center with sauce and meat balls. Variation: Pack mold with hot cooked rice and unmold. Fill center with beef stew, chicken curry, etc.

Swirly Gelatin--Lightly oil (or spray with vegetable pan spray) Wilton's Viennese Swirl Pan; fill with favorite gelatin salad and chill until firm. To unmold, dip pan in warm water to rim for 2 to 3 seconds; unmold onto serving platter.

Swirl Upside Down Cake--Instead of a round pan, use Wilton's Viennese Swirl Pan for a fancy Pineapple Upside Down Cake. Preheat oven to 350°F. Place 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter or margarine in pan and heat in oven until melted. Sprinkle 1 cup brown sugar over butter; cut 1 can (14 ounces) drained pineapple slices in half and place in indentations in pan. Prepare yellow cake mix according to package direction. Cool 5 minutes; invert onto serving platter.

Mini Dinosaur Gelatin Wiggle Treats--Use Mini Dinosaur Pans to create your favorite gelatin "wiggle" treat. (Don't forget Mini bunny, and Mini Gingerbread Boy Pans as options!)

Number Treats--Lightly butter (or spray with vegetable pan spray) Number Pan Set; pack with favorite marshmallow cereal treat mixture.

Big Bread Sandwiches--The 90s answer to the extra long sub sandwich. Bake bread (either from scratch, hot roll mix, frozen dough or bread machine) in one of Wilton's regular size shaped pans such as the Treeliteful Pan, heart-shaped, Snowman and Huggable Bear. Cool bread and split in half horizontally. Fill with favorite sandwich fixings. Makes a great centerpiece for a party!

Cherry Tree Tart--Place pastry dough in Wilton's Treeliteful Pan and bake completely. Cool, then carefully remove to serving plate. Beat 6 tablespoons lemon juice, 1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese and 1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk until smooth. Spread evenly and carefully over tree pastry. Top with 1 can (26 ounces) cherry pie filling. Refrigerate. Or for variety, use another favorite flavor of pie filling.
